TaperedPlus introduces advanced digital suite for smarter flat roofing design

TaperedPlus has launched a new suite of digital tools designed to streamline flat roofing design and installation, including an advanced 3D modelling system and an online U-value calculator.
The tools form part of the company’s ongoing digital development strategy, helping specifiers, architects and contractors improve design accuracy, thermal compliance and installation efficiency.
At the heart of the new offering is a 3D modelling tool that enables users to visualise roof geometry in detail, including falls, drainage points, insulation layouts and complex roof features. Unlike traditional drawing outputs, the system produces clear, intuitive visualisations that are easy to interpret and use throughout both the design process and on site.
The technology gives users a practical understanding of how a roof will perform before installation begins, while helping installers better understand board layouts, drainage direction and installation sequencing. Early feedback from architects, BIM professionals and contractors has highlighted the tool’s ability to communicate complex roof geometry in a clear and accessible format.
The practical benefits have already been demonstrated on projects including Linacre House in Bootle, Merseyside, where TaperedPlus developed a 536m² tapered insulation scheme to address existing ponding issues.
Stephen Dunne, contractor training & support at professional flat roofing systems supplier Flex-R, said: “The 3D model proved particularly valuable on the project because it helped the contractor visualise the tapered insulation layout, drainage falls and installation sequence in a much clearer way. For a team with limited experience of tapered systems, it provided a practical onsite reference that improved understanding of the scheme and gave installers greater confidence throughout delivery.”
Alongside the 3D modelling system, TaperedPlus has also developed an online U-value calculator that delivers instant thermal performance analysis. The tool enables users to quickly test different insulation build-ups and verify compliance with Part L of the Building Regulations.
Together, the two tools support a more efficient and informed design process, helping bridge the gap between design intent, thermal performance and installation requirements.
Aman Chahal, co-founder and CEO of Teesside-based TaperedPlus, said: “Flat roofing design has traditionally been fragmented and time-consuming, often relying on manual processes and separate stages. Our focus has been on developing digital tools that genuinely improve how people design and deliver roofs in practice.
“Our 3D modelling provides a level of clarity that hasn’t typically been available in a format installers can easily use, while our U-value calculator helps simplify compliance. Importantly, this is just the beginning, and we have further digital developments in the pipeline that will continue to support both specifiers and installers.”
By enabling clearer communication across project teams and improving design accuracy, the tools help reduce waste, avoid costly rework and support more efficient project delivery.
Founded in 2014, TaperedPlus operates nationwide, with a technical design studio in Wolverhampton. In 2023, the business secured a £5.5 million investment from BGF to accelerate its digital transformation, expand its technical sales team and support continued growth.
