Leeds has more sustainability engineering vacancies than any other Yorkshire city analysed in new research, with 232 roles identified and an estimated median salary £8,990 higher than the city’s median across all jobs.

The analysis by precision engineering specialist Accu examined UK job postings to identify where sustainability engineering roles are concentrated and how salaries compare with the wider jobs market.

Leeds ranks sixth in the UK by number of sustainability engineering roles. They account for 16.03% of the city’s 1,447 engineering jobs, or around one in six.

The estimated median salary for sustainability engineering roles in Leeds is £46,338, compared with £37,348 across all jobs in the city. That represents a 24.1% premium. It is also 3.6% above the £44,724 median for engineering jobs in Leeds.

The city has more sustainability engineering roles than Sheffield, York and Bradford combined. The research identified 68 roles in Sheffield, 45 in York and 33 in Bradford, a total of 146 compared with Leeds’ 232.

York has the largest salary premium among the Yorkshire cities analysed. Its estimated median sustainability engineering salary of £41,766 is 29.4% above the city’s £32,268 median across all jobs.

Nationally, London has the most sustainability engineering roles, with 1,157. Bristol leads outside the capital with 417, followed by Manchester with 396 and Birmingham with 324.
