Adderstone Civils, part of Newcastle-based Adderstone Group, has secured a major civil engineering contract as principal contractor at the Port of Felixstowe, the UK’s largest container port.
Awarded by Hutchison Ports, the contract appoints Adderstone Civils as the sole civils provider for the Port of Felixstowe in Suffolk, which handles around 40% of the UK’s container trade and plays a key role in global logistics.
Work started at the end of 2025 and covers key infrastructure development and maintenance works across the port estate. Adderstone Civils has established a one-acre site compound and office within the Port of Felixstowe that serves as a base for an initial team of 15, which will grow as the contract develops. The Group is investing in other projects around Felixstowe, including regenerating a key strategic estate immediately adjacent to the railway station, underlining its long-term commitment to the community.
Jonathan Grant, Managing Director of Adderstone Civils, said: “This is a key milestone for us. Being appointed as the sole civils provider for the UK’s largest and busiest container port is a strong endorsement of our team and the quality of work we deliver.
“Hutchison run the world’s leading network of ports and we’re honoured that they chose us to support their UK operations at such a strategically important site. Our focus is on collaborating with the port estates and logistics teams, assisting with the smooth running of the site and building a long-term relationship that will benefit all involved.”
To date, Adderstone Civils has built a strong reputation by consistently delivering high-quality civil engineering projects for a range of high-profile clients, including the likes of The Port of Tyne and Procter & Gamble. As part of its nationwide strategic expansion plan, this three-year contract positions the business on a clear trajectory while generating new opportunities for its next stage of growth.
Jonathan added: “This marks an important step forward for us. We’re building a great team and there’s a real sense of momentum within the business. With the support and expertise of the wider Adderstone Group, we’re establishing a track record as the go-to civils provider by consistently delivering complex and technically demanding projects.”
Ian Baggett, Founder of Adderstone Group, said: “It is both a pressure and a privilege to have been entrusted with building and maintaining the civils infrastructure that underpins approximately 40% of the UK's container trade.”
Felixstowe is the UK’s busiest container port, handling approximately 4 million TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units) annually. It is one of three UK ports operated by Hutchison Ports, which employs more than 30,000 people worldwide across Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, the Americas and Australia.
