Manufacturers highlight the benefits of Environmental and Social Value Certification during Made in Britain’s Social Value Month
British manufacturers have praised Made in Britain’s Environmental and Social Value (ESV) Certification for enhancing their “marketplace credibility” and pointing them “in the right direction for continuous improvement.”
Scarab Sweepers and WDS Components have both been recognised for their clear and measurable commitment to people, planet and place, reflecting on their progress as part of Made in Britain’s Social Value Month.
A global leader in the design and manufacture of road sweepers, Scarab Sweepers is working to improve its environmental and social footprint both in the UK and internationally, with a focus on stakeholders, employees and customers.
Its initiatives include donating to local food banks, planting native trees through The Woodland Trust, providing educational packs and visits to local preschools, and implementing extensive waste reduction policies.
Callum Huthwaite, Product & Market Specialist at Scarab Sweepers, said:
“The ESV Certification has really helped us improve our marketplace credibility. The UK is one of the leading hubs for road sweeper manufacturing in the world, but we are the only supplier with the Made in Britain accreditation, so it helps us continue to push in this marketplace.
“The certification is a key signpost to say that we’re committed to British manufacturing and also delivering environmental and social value to our customers and stakeholders.”
WDS Components, a manufacturer and global supplier of standard parts and machine accessories, is equally committed to delivering a positive impact beyond its products and services.
The company has established a Sustainability Task Force, with representatives from every department, to drive initiatives focused on reducing water and energy consumption, improving recycling and supporting the local community.
Mark Moody, Sales and Marketing Director at WDS Components, said:
“We’re committed to contributing to the UK economy, developing people and skills, supporting responsible supply chains, and improving environmental and community outcomes.
“As an SME, the certification helps give us that focus, it helps give us ideas and points us in the right direction for continuous improvement.”
Aligned with the UK Government’s latest Social Value Model (2025) and the Procurement Act 2023, the ESV Certification enables UK manufacturers to demonstrate their environmental and social value in practical terms.
It also helps businesses promote their commitment to local employment and skills development, community engagement, environmental sustainability, and ethical and local supply chains.
John Pearce, CEO of Made in Britain, said:
“The ESV Certification is an invaluable tool for UK manufacturers, recognising the vital contribution they make to social value every single day through their commitment to skilled, meaningful employment, support for local supply chains, their environmental actions and strengthening their communities.
“This all helps the growth of the UK’s productive economy and helps to build trust in the sector as we work towards a socially and environmentally viable economy.”
