Engineering expertise provided by Yorkshire firm HJ Consulting Engineers (HJCE) has played a key role in delivering the latest phase of construction at a major technical skills and industry hub serving the Humber region’s industrial future.
The Wakefield-based company has been involved in CATCH’s new facility in Stallingborough, between Grimsby and Immingham, which specialises in training for the process, energy, engineering and renewables sectors.
Part funded by Humber Freeport, development of CATCH 1.5 has seen HJCE deliver an undisclosed contract to provide structural and civil engineering design services. The work has helped facilitate completion of the foundations and steelwork ahead of the final construction phase of the roof section on the 17,500 sq. ft. facility.
Completed earlier this year, the project will further strengthen CATCH’s expanding range of facilities, introducing new conferencing spaces, meeting rooms, and opportunities for local employers to engage with schools and the wider community.
HJCE was involved from concept through to detailed design, providing extensive technical and consultancy support throughout the development of the modern building, which has been constructed using the latest low-carbon methods.
The engineering practice, which also provides highway and drainage design services, continues to see growing demand for its expertise from clients progressing commercial development projects across the region.
Based at Wakefield 41 Business Park and employing a 26-strong team of engineers, the company is actively recruiting additional staff. Its current client portfolio also includes landowner Harworth Group and property developer Opus North.
Andrew Fairburn, HJCE’s managing director, said his firm had been “proud” to provide its services for a “transformative” development.
He added: “From start to finish, this has been a fantastic project for us to be involved with, seeing us contribute significantly to the delivery of an impressive building. The work has showcased our capabilities together with the engineering skills and expertise available locally to help bring forward first class projects and detailed design work.”
David Talbot, CEO of CATCH, said: “HJCE has been an integral partner in helping us to create a world-class facility that’s contributing to the training of highly skilled people, who will be at the forefront of the region’s current and future industrial and manufacturing successes.”
